Fire development and suppression

Fire development and suppression

The goal of this Work Package is to extend the understanding of fire development in buildings with a focus on investigating the influence of exposed wooden surfaces and ventilation configuration and how to suppress such fires with a minimum of water.

Project 2.1 - Compartment fires

Contribute with experimental data and knowledge about compartment fires with a focus on the effect of ventilation on fire development and smoke spread. Analysis of experimental data combined with numerical modelling. Special focus on compartments with exposed wood surfaces.

Project 2.2 - Efficient fire suppression

Contribute with knowledge and guidelines on how fires can be suppressed using small amounts of water. This will be achieved by combining experimental activities with numerical modelling, and with a special focus on firefighting in buildings with timber structures.

Project 2.3 - Battery energy storage systems

Analyse the potential hazards of fires in battery energy storage systems in buildings with a focus on a safe and efficient emergency response by the fire service and other involved stakeholders.
