Historic and heritage-listed buildings are an important part of our cultural heritage and should be preserved for future generations. When renovating, changing the use of, or upgrading the fire safety of heritage buildings, it is necessary to strike a balance between preserving the building's historic character and complying with modern technical requirements given in building regulations. Achieving this balance can be challenging.
In this FRIC project, we have mapped the fire safety measures implemented in 10 different case-study buildings and identified solutions that are well suited for upgrading fire safety in heritage buildings.
