FRIC webinar: Numerical Simulation of Smouldering

Published (News)

Welcome to this FRIC webinar, which is open for the public!

Would you like to learn more about how we can use powerful numerical tools to simulate a smouldering fire? This the webinar for you!
When? 10th December 11-11:35.

Smouldering fires (flameless combustion) represent significant risks to dwellings, industry, and wildland. In order to mitigate and control these risks it is important to understand and to be able to predict the smouldering process. Numerical simulations can in this context be powerful tool. However, building a numerical model that is capable to capture all relevant physics (heat transport, kinetics, etc.) with sufficient accuracy is difficult. The webinar will give a short introduction into smouldering fires and present challenges that smouldering poses to numerical models. Furthermore, a novel model that is currently under development for the simulation of smouldering in granular biomass fuel beds will be presented. The presenters hope that the webinar will be i informative for you, and that it will also initiate constructive discussions.

The research has been carried out as part of project 2-2 in FRIC, in a collaboration with Western Norway University of Applied Science (HVL).

Speakers: Bjarne C. Hagen (HVL), Tian Li (RISEFR) and Christoph Meraner (RISEFR)

The webinar is free and will be held in English.
